Prasiolite is named for the Greek words "prason" meaning leek, and lithos "stone", for its leek-green color. Since 1950, almost all natural prasiolite has come from mines in Brazil and Poland. The celadon color of “leek-stone” calls to mind green pears,  granny-smith apples and tart limes. Prasiolite is often mistaken for more expensive gemstones such as Green Beryl, Peridot, and Tourmaline, but we love its for its unique light-green color and fresh, clean look.
